Project Mayflower
In embarking on Project Mayflower, I aimed to transcend my creative limitations and explore new avenues beyond my comfort zone. This graphic design capstone project represents my journey of growth and experimentation, pushing me to physically create instead of relying solely on digital methods. I produced three key deliverables to guide viewers through this process: first, pendulum paintings that manipulate motion to create dynamic radial patterns and landscapes using both spray and latex paint; second, a journey map that illustrates the creative process; and third, a vehicle designed to convey the message worth tuning into. This project culminated in an exhibition at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Capstone Showcase in May 2022.
STEP 1: GO DO!
STEP 1: GO DO!
During the experimental phase of my project, I stepped out of my comfort zone to master the manipulation of both spray paint and pendulum techniques. This exploration allowed me to create unique and dynamic artistic expressions, pushing the boundaries of my creative abilities.

These initial prototypes not only contributed to my capstone project but also inspired a series of commissioned pieces after its completion. The pendulum paintings and creatively spray-painted shoes became a unique extension of my work, showcasing the innovative techniques I developed during the project and allowing me to explore new avenues in my artistic practice.

Once I felt confident in the physical pieces, I transitioned to Illustrator to begin developing the Mayflower, a spaceship cockpit that brought my vision to life in a digital format.

Contruction Completed
I created environments that felt out of this world, along with a vehicle designed to navigate them. The final step was to seamlessly integrate these elements, bringing the Mayflower and its surroundings together into a cohesive experience.
The overarching goal of this project was to highlight that as we embark on new journeys and explore uncharted territories, we must learn from the past. Just as Columbus's expeditions had profound consequences, my exploration of new routes serves as a reminder of our responsibility to navigate our future endeavors thoughtfully. By acknowledging history, we can ensure our explorations are guided by awareness and respect for the impact they may have, striving to avoid the missteps of those who came before us.
Whats The Point Here?
Capstone Showcase 2022
University of Nebraska, Lincoln
At the Capstone Showcase, I transformed my 9'x9' cubicle into a shack, symbolizing a separation from the present and an invitation to explore new perspectives. The interior featured a pendulum-laced roof, visually connecting to my pendulum paintings. I displayed a series of posters designed to guide viewers through the project, alongside a projected animation of the Mayflower navigating through the painted landscapes. To enhance the experience, I animated the backgrounds, creating the illusion of movement and immersing the audience in the themes of exploration and creativity central to Project Mayflower.
